Last week, the University of Aveiro hosted the conference The Future of the Academic Profession, organised by the CIPES team. The event brought together researchers and experts from different countries to reflect on the challenges and transformations shaping the academic profession and the future of Higher Education.
Yesterday, 9 September, our researcher Carlos Azevedo took part in the first plenary session of the IV International Summer School, organised by the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto, at the invitation of the event’s organising committee. Running until Friday, 11 September, this year’s Summer School explores the theme “Future(s) in Dispute: Youth and Global Transformations.”
In the plenary session, entitled “Higher Education, Science, and Youth: Which Possible Future(s)?”, Carlos spoke about higher education students’ identities, pathways and political agency.
Between 25 and 28 August 2026, the 65th ERSA Congress: Global Challenges and Regional Responses in a Transition Era is taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria, with the participation of researchers from CIPES.
CIPES researcher Ricardo Biscaia presented two papers at the congress, both focusing on the mobility of higher education graduates.
The first, co-authored with Diogo Ribeiro, was entitled: “The whether and where of graduate migration: Higher education graduates’ mobility determinants and the role of higher education as a retention factor”.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Rosemary Deem, who had also served, since 2024, as an external adviser to our Centre. Over the years, she developed close professional and personal relationships with our researchers.
